Bosch SR37X for 73 ES? 1800 1973

Hello,

There are several versions of the Bosch starter for 4 cylinder(and some 6 cylinders) rear wheel drive cars.

You can make any of them fit including the latest version which is smaller and lighter in weight and is also a permanent magnet gear reduction starter.

However if you were to find an example of the original first 2 versions of the starter, it would not work on cars that need to have pole 16 on the starter solenoid for cold start and electronic ignitions systems.

But if you buy a rebuilt by Bosch starter it will always come with a NEW solenoid with pole 16.

The early versions of this starter, including ones with pole 16, have no threads for mounting and require nuts and bolts.

The later starters are threaded with metric threads.

You can install a threaded starter on early engines.

But due to repeated tightening, the openings in the bell housing for the bolts get reduced in size and usually need to opened up a little before the 12mm bolt will go in.

I almost forgot to mention that Bosch will send you any of 1 of 3 starters, not threaded, threaded and threaded permanent magnet with gear reduction as a SR37X.

Bosch does include metric nuts for cars previously equipped with a threaded starter, but does not include bolts for cars previously equipped with non-threaded starters.
