More redneck engineering 200 1990

First, a thanks to all that have helped me on my 1990 240DL sedan. It is amazing how much I have forgotten, and never knew, about my favorite cars.

I pulled the center console today to check the reason the electric locks were not working. I could pull up on the DS lock button and hear the relay click but not when I pushed down. I found that the lock relay was not even hooked up. Plugged it back is and all was well. While I was in there...

I found some more redneck engineering. The AC relay has one green wire snipped and few more wires spliced together. If I were to guess, this is bypassing the low pressure switch. If I turn the AC switch on, the compressor engages but no cooling occurs.

FYI, I did find that this car had been converted, probably by a DIY'er, to 134. The compressor has the quick disconnect fittings. The "vent" on the passenger's side console kick panel has been broken out to allow for the incorrect routing of the expansion valve (or whatever it is called).

Now the question, should I just give this thing a recharge and see what happens using the sight glass as my determining factor for correct charge then work out the redneck wiring? Since summer appears to be over here in Chicago, should I just leave it for next year and worry about other pending issues?

Thanks,

Mike
