Volvo 240 High Idling 200 1989

Check that the problem is not with the IAC, but allowing un-measured air to get in elsewhere.

If no air is getting in "illegally' then pinching off a hose to the IAC would kill the engine. Use a set of slip-joint pliers and gradually close off one of the hoses to the IAC. If the engine dies, it is the IAC. If it keeps running, though slower, it's a leak somewhere else.
