Wanted: Source for lower control arm for 72 140 Volvo-also steering gearbox 140-160

Does anyone know where these parts can be bought new. If not, I am in the market for a good passenger side front lower control and a steering gearbox.
thanks, Harry

Hello,

Both might be available new.

Can you supply a part number for the steering box?

There were 3 different steering boxes and we have 1 of the later versions.

There is a plate riveted to the steering box with a Volvo part number.

I believe a new passenger side lower control arm is still available, but expensive.

If available, the control arm should come with new bushings and possibly a new ball joint already installed.

Hey Eric: thanks for getting back to me on the parts. Here is the steering box #1172035826. Vp parts list a control arm but it is in europe. May just have to find a good used one. I also need the center link tube, I have the ends.
Thanks, Harry

Hello,

The Volvo part numbers for the steering box should be 678308, 1206043 or 1206230.

The Volvo part number is printed onto the metal plate and not stamped or cast.

There were 2 basic center link designs, 1 with female threads in the center link tube and 1 with male threads on the end of the center link tube.

Which style do you have?

FYI, if you have the time, usually 2-3 weeks, and can afford the cost, a new lower control should be available.

The number I gave above is the one on the small riveted in plaque that is on top of the steering gear. The control arm is too expensive new for me. I'll take the time to find a good used one. The center link I have has female threads on the link.

Eric, thanks for mentioning that as I'm sure I have that too. A local friend who deals in 1800 parts bought a ratty '73 to get the motor & M41. I bought the 4.30 rear so I could add a used lsd and use it in my '69 -- the fellow threw the front subframe into the deal. -- BTW -- I am interested in replacing my non-functioning brake booster and I think I recall you mentioning you rebuild them--please contact me. -- Dave

Dave-

If Eric can't help you with the booster I have one that was brand new five years ago when I got my 142.

I think CVI gets almost $400 new. Make an offer.

Thanks,

Jim
