Gas tank repair with tank sealer 1800 1968

2or 3 small rust through leaks nag my fuel tank.
otherwise the tank seems sound
I have been thinking of using the sealer inside the tank
but am not sure of the durability of the repair.
Has anyone used these products?
what about the pickup tube ?
what about prep?
thanks

You'd probably do yourself a favor to take your tank to an old-time radiator shop
for repair and treatment.

Enter "Gas Tank" in the search window next to the red Volvo wagon. That should be a good start on your answer.

Gas tank repair with tank sealer 1800 1968

Hello,

I know there are several brickboarders who use a DIY process for rust, but I do not know if those process' can handle holes.

As I write, we are in the process of having a gas tank for a 1973 1800es repaired by the local ReNu facility.

Our tank has rust holes on the outside of the top and is actually not rusty inside.

We are waiting to hear from the ReNu shop to see if the rust goes through to the seam.

If rust holes have formed in the seam, the tank CAN NOT be fixed.

So I checked on the price for a new reproduction gas tank for the customer and they are $500.00 which is more than the ReNu repair.

The ReNu warranty is a life time warranty.

The new repro tanks warranty is a year.

I've had very good luck with the POR-15 kits. You need to follow the directions exactly and not be in a hurry to fully dry it between steps. I normally plan on it taking ten days to fully clean, etch and coat that tank with the supplied chemicals.

I've done a few tanks with one of these kits and always been happy. At the moment, two of my own cars and the tractor have tanks that have been treated with one of these kits. The tractor is going on 9 years now and is still working flawlessly.

There are a lot of roads to Boston !
Nice to here sealing works well I agree nothing you want to rush the drying time on.I will stop by the radiator shop and talk to those guys. Has anyone ever
modified a 122 tank to work in an 1800? Same shape and size just different neck.
