With garage space at a premium, it might make sense to leave the 911S outside to rust and protect the BRICK!

That's a lot of paper for a 240!

The mileage is very low, but this is still a 22 year old car. Seals, bushings, motor mounts and anything else made from rubber on this car is probably well past its intended service life. You are most likely in for new front struts and rear shocks, and I personally would want to change all of the fluids as well.

Then there is the issue of how well this car has been maintained. If the previous/original owner went by mileage for servicing the car, then it is suffering from some severe "deferred maintenance." 22 year old transmission fluid, anyone? How many times has the oil been changed....if going by the owner's manual recommendation of every 5K miles, that would be just 3 oil changes in over 20 years. Bet the inside of the engine does not look good.

I'd rather buy one with 200,000 miles and a book of maintenance records. At least you know that, at that mileage, certain major repairs have already been covered....

The mechanicals on an old car are the easiest to fix. The wear parts on the exterior and interior are made of unobtanium on a car like this. You can't restore a car to this condition - you just can't get the parts. Still overpriced and I agree that rubber functional parts should be inspected and replaced as necessary and full fluid flushes. I think it deserves to be in a museum, as I believe the 240 is the Model A Ford of the modern era and will one day before too many years, get the respect it deserves. All cars go through an awkward period of being "used cars" before they become collectible. Now is the time to pick out some of the nice survivors and restore before they become more collectible and the rarer parts either disappear or become priced impossibly high.

I did call about that car over a year ago when the were asking a little more $$ for it. They said they'd go as low as $15K. I wouldn't mind having it, but at about half that price. But I'm happy with my '86. I know every moan and groan it has as it knows mine.

This dealer probably paid some little old widow about $2000 for this 22-yr-old car!

I seem to remember this selling on eBay (presumably to the dealer now trying to sell it) for something like 12K.

Do any of you savvy Californians recognize this gizmo?

Art Benstein near Baltimore

Back in the 1800's the Tate's Watch Company of Massachusetts wanted to produce other products, and since they already made the cases for watches, they used them to produce compasses. The new compasses were so bad that people often ended up in Canada or Mexico rather than California . This, of course, is the origin of the expression,..."He who has a Tate's is lost!"
