New paint job 200 1989

What did it cost? Hmmm-I can just give you the final cost or first enter what was done by me and the paint shop. The paint shop was that franchise Miracle in Alameda, Calif. After speaking with different peeps and looking at reviews I made that decision instead of MAACO.

I did contact a few independents-but-$2500 on up-. Couldn’t afford that. I found a lot of negs about MAACO. Moreso than Miracle. Actually found a lot of good reviews about Miracle. So-first I bought 12 Well nuts to replace the ones on the roof for the roof rack. I removed the roof rack. I also removed the side trim. Miracle would remove the wipers, emblems, tail lights, and the wiper spray nozzles and did all the prep inc. masking.

I had discovered a paint color I liked, which Miracle would have to order as it was not one of their 'stock' paints. Sat down with the boss. I acted like I was hesitant-like well-“Maybe I will-maybe not" but still friendly attitude. They have their “top of the line" Ultrethane just below their “Top Top” of the line for $2000 which was a water base. The Ultrethane for $995 did not include a clear coat. I told him I wanted a clear coat and wasn’t quite ready to make the decision to use his service or not.

He came back to include a free clear coat and gave me a price of $1000 even (plus tax of materials). I asked what it would run for another clear coat-he said $150 so total came to $1150 +tax.. For that sum got the car sanded tho not down to metal. (that’s the “Top Top of the line job),

So, I got prep, including base touch ups for any minor pits or scratches, which actually there was very little. It all included 2 coats of paint, 2 coats of clear. Left it on Tuesday morning. Picked it up that Thursday morning.

The paint job itself came out very well. They do have paint jobs for much less and Im happy we didn’t have to go for that, tho it was a slight struggle on the pocket book.

Wish I had a sprayer, knew how to use it, and a dust free place-I probably would have saved maybe $700+(?) in labor. I dont really know what % is labor and what % is materials. They did have to order the color I chose made, as it was not one of their stock colors.

Just for a note-I can remember when Earl Scheib advertised on tv: " I will paint ANY car for $29.95" Now even they start at about $600 -I think.
