84' Oil pump replaced, still have marginal/poor pressure - SOLVED 200 1984

Thanks for the update. About a month ago, KlausC suggested adding "SOLVED" to the subject line once a problem was resolved in order to make future searches easier.

The hinky filter reminds me of why I am cynical of some claims I read on the net. About 20 years ago, IPD was selling an "improved" oil filter for the 240. It spun right on with no interference, but it was about 2 inches longer than a stock filter so it just HAD to be BETTER.

At the time I reasoned that it was very unlikely that IPD had commissioned a production run of filters and they were just rebadging an existing oil filter application. Since I wanted to try one of these miraculous filters without paying the premium price plus shipping which IPD was charging, I decided to source them myself.

I got my hands on a full-line Purolator catalog and thumbed through those few pages at the very back which succinctly spec'd out all the filters made by Purolator. Sure enough, I found one with a check valve, the correct thread and same OD as the stock filter. The only difference I could see was that the bypass pressure of the jumbo filter was so low that it was useless in a 240. I remember thinking, "Damn, I guess IPD did order up a custom filter from their vendor."

Well, before I could buy some of those wonders of oil filtering Nirvana, IPD pulled them from their catalog. Then stories about the useless oil filters IPD was selling started to find their way back to me.

As Reagan, the 20-Mule-Team-Cowboy, said, "Trust, but verify."
