134a conversion 200 1990

Hello,

Yes on adding the pusher fan, if you can get a larger condenser that will also help. If you just order the one for your 90 model, I think you get the R12 one.

The most important thing doing successful R134 conversion is getting the lines clean. I bet the lines are filled with a gooey gray to black sludge right now. Twenty or so years with do that.

Open up the system to clean and blow out all that gunk out of the lines with a good cleaner. Drain and flush the old oil out of the compressor. Replace the oil in the compressor with new clean PAG oil minus one Oz for the dryer. Replace the expansion valve, you will have to remove it to flush out the lines anyway. The last thing you add is the dryer with 1 oz of oil in it as you close up the system.

Pull a good vacuum and use the 80% rule doing the refill with refrigerant.

I live in Houston and my converted 86 wagon held its own quite respectfully this last summer during the drought and endless 100 degree days. That was using a clean converted R134 system with the factory components (with the exception of the Compressor that is supposed to be a R134 model) and a pusher fan out of a 92 model.

Good Luck,

Paul
