If your 240 has an AW70(or 71) transmission, do not replace the filter. A TSB was issued by Volvo a long time ago to NOT replace it as it is a waste of time. Every AW7x tranny I have pulled apart had a spotless filter so I must agree with the (do not replace) approach.

If you insist on changing it there are two options on the dipstick. 1: Take out both starter bolts on the bell housing and remove the dipstick tube along with the pan in one piece. NOTE: it is very difficult to get that top starter bolt out.

2: Where the dipstick tube meets the pan, hold the nut welded to the pan with a wrench, then rotate the nut on the dipstick tube until it comes off. NOTE: If this approach is used, the flange between the pan and the dipstick tube almost always leaks after it is reassembled.

Your call, I have done all three approaches in the past and just don't change the filter any more.
