How Much Should I sell My Car For??? 200 1992

Hey, so I have a 1992 240 sedan and need some help on how much a fair price would be for it.

The Pros: It is 100% stock
It looks brnd new
everything is original
no problems with the car
I keep up on the maintnance

The Cons: well over 300,000 miles, dont know exact, odometer went out a while ago
Salvaged title, got rear ended, but is fixed now

So that is pretty much it. I am selling so I can get another one, maybe a different series, but this car looks amazing but I dont know how much to price because of the cons.

If it is good enough for someone to buy, think it over? 200 1992

I have seen our domestic three on used car lots with half the miles and one-fourth the years. These cars are shot and they still want three grand. If you get into this decade they triple that and they just a shaky deal to the pocket book to repair because the aftermarket is not there yet.

Raise the hood on those front wheel drives and take a thoughtful look. You can try to see any problems but even the simple components are shoe horned in there. Besides the trouble, starts at the wheel spindles and works towards the center just like you will have too. Alternator, water pumps will require "slim Jim" hands.

In the used market, it is about finding the person who appreciates riding with more money in his wallet so he can do things after he gets where he wanted to go. I have seen a many a fine car, sitting in front of a shack, for a house!

Things looked out of balance to me. Your car can sit at both places and fewer thieves to worry about too!

I think if you want lots of money for your investment, you need to look at it like a long time wife or girlfriend. It is cheaper to keeper; you have the title, no payments and it is doing the job. Your

All diamonds in the beginning have rough edges, I myself just kept on polishing!

Down here in Atlanta, no A/C is a bigger penalty than the salvage title. Working A/C = $750. No A/C = driveway ornament.

Where I currently live, any running car will garner $600-700. Any running 240 will get $1100, and if the a/c works and is well cared for and everything works, the going price would be ~$1700-2k regardless of mileage. The Abq/SantaFE market for older Volvo's is hot right now.
I recently had my 350k mile 91 245 offered $1700 and it isn't clean by any means, but everything works, new A/C, etc but have about every mod a 240 can get from IPD. In contrast I saw a nice clean 83 244 with similar high mileage completely stock in NJ going for $1800

The salvage title will work against him.

It really shouldn't. I bought my car with a salvage title, and the only prob was a paint can fell off a truck (pink) dented the hood slightly, and broke the headlight, spewing pink paint across the nice lt blue metallic car.
After the work was done, mostly by the guy who bought it from the insurance auction, submitted all the repairs and restored condition of the car to the state and a new clean title was issued.
Most people who know and want these cars don't care especially if the total was due to something minor like my car or the OP car has.

Hi Uncle Senn14,

I guess you got your auto transmission all fingered out, then? What did you have to do to fix it? Tranny fluid flush and refill?

Senn14 is from Issaquah, in mighty, Mighty, MIGHTY WA-state. See his profile by clicking his user name link.

Please try the free iPD classifieds. You may need to create an account.

You can try posting to other pro-Volvo 240 forums (like here), craigslist.org locales (limited to four duplicate craigslists posts) in pro-Volvo 240 locales, and the like.

As for value, I dunno. Try Edmond's, Kelly Blue Book, and the NADA sites for value. The 300k miles works against value, generally.

Research the i-net for 240s with similar qualities.

I wanna reside in Issaquah. Wah. Failed an interview with Siemens Medical Ultrasound there in 2010. Wah. It was a stacked deck.

cheers,

dud.

if you get as much as 500 for the car despite how nice it looks consider yourself lucky.

no retail buyer will go near the car at any price out of ignorance and fear.

that leaves knowledgeable 240 buyers who simply know what likely will need doing with that kind of mileage and pay commensurately.

See, around here (Northwest Indiana), you would get $400 salvage value for the car and since it is sales tax exempt and $25/year to tag...if it has at least 1 year left on its emissions (my poorly running 240 aced that test), is not overly rusty, starts, stops and sort of goes around corners...you can get about $1000 for it.

Regional special interest/needs are everything.

Maybe this will help. I live in New England. Perhaps the second biggest Volvo market in the country. 240 prices are high here too.

Almost 2 years ago I sold my 1990 244DL (sedan) with 300k for $750 dollars. I thought that was a good price for the car considering the mileage.

The good: All original drivetrain that ran well. Many new parts including recent tune-up, battery, tie rods, rack boots, FP relay. Excellent interior. Body mostly good. I cleaned it thoroughly inside and out before putting it up for sale.

The bad: It had minor rust and clear-coat peeling on the driver's side. Minor engine and tranny oil leaks. Needed rear brake overhaul. Shot reasonator. Broken heater control valve. No AC.

Salvage value about $400 locally. All things considered I thought I was pretty lucky to get $750 for it...:)

You missed an important bit of information...but I got from your profile...WHERE are you.

That being said even being in possibly the biggest single 240 market on the planet, you have a salvage title car with a ton of miles that ate no verifiable. In Tulsa OK, it is a $600 car so I would put it between $1000-1100 assume you have an auto with cruise and working AC.

Most of the time hen you pass 250K miles, most of the time it takes a dedicated enthusiasts to get more that $100-200 over salvage value in almost any market.

unfortunatly it does not have cruise and ac doesnt work but when I say that this car looks amazing, I mean that it looks amzing i get compliments on it whenever i drive. the interior is 11/10 and same for the exterior. I do live in issaquah which is outside of seattle which has a ton of 240's. other than that it has no rust or dents, and I think I can get around 800.. what do you guys think any more imput will be helpful. thanks

You live in Issaquah? 200 1992

Live in Issaquah? We're retiring to a house in North Bend (a little cheaper than Issaquah, and no emissions tests) -- as soon as we find a nice place (already got a mortgage preapproval and a buyer for our house here in NJ) -- we have a couple of real estate buyer reps pounding the bushes looking for a place for us.

Anyway, glad to hear there are a lot of 240s around there. We've been there a few times on trips, and didn't see many -- but the place is certainly full of Subarus.

I'd ask more than $800. Start at say $950 and see what happens. Pricing it below $1000 will attract more potential buyers.

Oh, one more thing. Clean windows sells cars. Detail it...:)
