Do I really need a brake tool? 1990 240DL 200

My rear brakes are howling again.Everything is new, rotors calipers, pads, shims, hardware.I have brake greased the backs of the shims, the sliding pins and the ledge where the rake pads ride. The only thing that I have not done is rotate the piston as per the Bentley/Volvo books.Maybe this will solve the problem.I've owned many 240 volvos and done many brake jobs and have never had to or checked the piston orientation. This is my last resort to stop the squeal. What are you using to rotate the piston? Keep in mind this noise just started and the parts have been on a few months so the piston may not cooperate.TIA
