Bench Testing Fuel Pump Relay 200

Hi All,

Subject says it all. Like to know the spares I keep in the glove box are good.

Thanks,

All the relays (as well as other electricals) are 12V. If you want to bench test a relay to see if the solenoid closes the contacts, apply 12V to the solenoid leads and watch for continuity with a multimeter at the other leads.

I use an old PC power supply as the 12V source to test auto stuff.

Bench Testing Fuel Pump Relay 200

Hi Trevor,

I actually tried that. I've got an old 12v transformer that I use to check light bulbs from the JY but it didn't seem to have enough current available to consistently throw the relay switch.

I didn't want to bring a car battery up on the work bench. I hate those big sparks!

Marty, my first thought is your transformer is AC out. One of those two relays will just buzz on AC, and the other should pull in, because there's a diode in series with the coil. I test mine by putting them in Mrs. B's car. ;)

Q: How do you pick out a dead battery from a pile of good ones?
A: It's got no spark!

just install it. you can't load it with a pump on the bench. good luck, chuck.

I swap them on to the car and see if they work. I then use them for a week or so to make sure there are no intermittent problems.

Thanks Gents,

With three 240's, I rode around for the last week sans the glove box and swapped out all the fuel pressure relays. In fact one of my spares didn't work. I "reflowed" it and good as new. For good measure, I resoldered all of them.

Thanks,

Marty
