Recently I had pulled the alternator and taken it to a reputable auto electric shop where they replaced the rectifier / voltage regulator. The car had died and been jumped several times prior to this. I've charged the batt, re-installed the alternator and went on my merry way, after about 10 minutes things stopped working, warning lights dim, and the car died. Got a jump and made it back home.
Nippon Denso 100A alternator
The alternator is not charging at all. With the engine running I am getting 11.6 volts between ground and the positive post of the alternator. Revving the engine causes NO change in voltage. Getting the same voltage between ground and the positive post of the battery--- so i think the charging cables are good.
Does the ground strap location to the back of the alternator matter or does it just need to go to one of the chassis screws? There are several screws back there.
With key in II position, only getting 11.5~ish volts on the exciter wire to the back of the alternator. I read in the FAQ that I need 12+V here or the alternator wont charge.
Have I killed the battery with too many deep discharges to the point where I cant even reach a minimum threshold voltage to excite the alternator to charge?
Going to take the car in to have the battery tested. Any other thoughts??
I need to get this car running, we've been down a vehicle for 5 days now.
thanks so much!
Matt
