Broken side "vent' window. How to replace? 700

1990 745 had the side window busted out. I have secured a replacement but now I am wondering how do I get the new one in place? Does anyone know by chance? It appears as though I will have to remove the black slider for the main window....is this correct?

yes, the black slider between fixed and movable windows must be removed, as the fixed window slides backwards into place. Pretty sure the trim along the bottom of the window opening on the outside of the door has to come off also. Not sure if you can just lower the movable window to the bottom of its run or if you have to pop the window off the lift mechanism (be careful not to lose the little red teflon washers if you do) in order to get the black slider free.

Alright...Now, I did notice in the hollow cavity of the door at the bottom when cleaning the glass pieces I found a red plastic washer and a gold colored clip of some sort in there loose.
As for the actual window, it rolls up/down fine. I'll have to do some more investigation...perhaps its been replaced before me...It was a city car at one time and it could have been broken into twice....

I did that job once--many years ago. I think you'll have to at least remove the window glass to get the rear channel out. The gold colored clip is what hods the regulator "pins" to the lower channel -- and the third leg of the regulator to the door frame (I'm thinking 240 here--but I think your third photo down shows that part just below the right side of the plastic housing). You have to work backward with your hand between the lower channel and the outer door skin. The folded over end of the clip has a raised edge to push with your fingers--lift it a little and push - then wiggle the clip off the slots. You can practice on the one you can see facing you in the inner door skin. The clip and washer you found are probably left over from a previous break-in as you surmise. -- Dave
