Unsolicited Offers 200

I have been approached twice this month asking if my 240 wagon is for sale. The second person was pretty persistent and asked a couple of times if I would just price it. I didn't. It's a 90 model 5 speed and the paint is nice.

Is this happening to anyone else??

Hawk

I got a lot of comments on the 240 I drove for 2 years. (I hated that car, it was a beater). Very few on my 740, even though I far prefer the 740 personally. I'm sure the terrible paint has something to do with it.

I havent got the offers on my 90-240 sedan, yet, but Im getting lots of looks these days. Some days, I feel like Im the only one driving a brick. I dont see that many.

When I had the Amazon, 67-122S(years ago), I was approached all the time.

I've sold ~2 cars via notes left on my windshield which included an email address. Never to anyone who opened with "I'll make you a good offer". If someone approaches me about a car I'm driving, I expect him/ her to make an offer.

When I put in an ad for 240 parts I usually say "selling parts from the car, not the car". I then get into this kind of email dialogue

    - Ad-responder: How much for the car?
    - Me: I'm selling parts, not the car
    - A: is the car complete? How much?
    - M: It's complete. But I'm selling parts.
    - A: How much for what's left?
    - M: You'd need to make an offer - I'm selling parts.
    - Repeat ....

Some folks want them for derby cars and want to pay scrap price for a car that runs and drives. Others think that it'll be cheap if it's a "parts car".

I get offers all the time. Funniest one was when a guy and his wife in a mini-van pulled alongside at a stop light and asked if the car was for sale (1980 242 done up as a GT). I said nope, and he then said he would make me a GOOD offer. I asked how good, and he pointed to his wife. The deal fell through when I asked if his wife was in need of any body work.

That's pretty funny about the bodywork needed on the potential buyer's wife. Unless you were sitting on Rodeo Drive, I'd have to guess they could all use a little. Me, I've got a body made for radio only..HA!

Unsolicited Offers wow what a question 200

hi hawk and others- have had my92 245 for about 2 and a half years. in the last year about 5 persons have offered to buy the volvo . not interested in selling but if so would be firm at 3k. have talked with these seekers and found a common motive. repairs are much cheaper and most can be done by yourself if you are handy with backyard mechanics. they all complain about the costly and difficult repairs on modern cars. the manual trans on the 240 makes it a hot seller too. automatics will thin your wallet faster than a spendaholic wife. only problem with the 240 for cheap bastid shadetree mechanics is parts are tougher to find. take for example the recent thread on the gemo clutch cable- apparently no more in america. even a higher price for a used 240 pales in comparison to 3 years of car payments on a depreciating asset and exhorbitant car repairs for newer cars. also noticed lately an exponential increase in new member applications for the cba club. any takers here? as always oldduke

I wish I was more like benski. Seems like I always get attached. I still have the truck 69 Chevy truck I drove in college.

Maybe some of us will be on Hoarders. I have 3 240s and tubs of spare parts. Maybe I need eap at work.

Don't feel that you are all alone. I am still the original purchaser '71Harley Sportster (not AMF) and a '74 F-100 with the heavy duty trailer package. The end of those and the beginnings of the F-150's

Oh and four 240 Volvo's and a hand me down '86 motor home.
Plus the hoarding! How about some old Harley Sprint machines with three spare engines and parts from my youthful days!

        Crazy is it not?
        Phil
