1987 240 Speaker knob (?) question 200

Hi everyone, I am about to install a new radio in my 1987 240. The radio in the car (stock one) hasn't worked since I got the car from my Mom. Anyway, just below the little "shelf" on the dashboard where all the switches are, such as: A/C switch, hazard switch etc. there is an "Unknown Switch" that I need to identify. it has a round knob and has symbols for two speakers. Does anyone know what this know does? My first thought is that it is a fader for the speakers (front to back). But then I have heard people mention an AMP on some 240 volvos..... I need to figure out what this know does so I can figure out whether to work it in to the new radio or eliminate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! My Mom does not remember what the know did...... P.S. I added a URL to the image of the knob/switch / I put the URL to photobucket in the blank where it says to, but I can't get it to show up :( Thanks....

Front to back fade if you have rear deck speakers. The new stereo will have it built in. So your a Texans fan?

1987 240 Speaker knob (?) question 200

Thanks so much for the reply :) I DO have rear deck speakers.... 5 and 1/4" I believe. Just after your reply I found one for sale on Ebay, so it is indeed a fader for the front to back speakers, just as you said. Next question if I may.. According to some of the Volvo web sites I have found, they say IF you have the fader on the switch panel then it means you ALSO have an Amp. Is that right?

What I guess I really what to know if what do I do with the fader thing and it's assorted wiring when installing the new radio. Like you said, the new radio will have its own fader, so do I just run new speaker wires for all the speakers, take out the fader knob assembly? The fader harness has three different plugs on the thing :( Any Ideas anyone? Not looking forward to doing this..... would rather rebuild the front end or something....

My 88 had no amp when i got the car in 2002 and moved/replace the stereo from the bottom to top slot. What you need to find is coupling cable to use for the new system to the old connector of wires in the car. Should not have to rewire the speaker wires unless they are damaged. Crutchfield possibly?
