Cold start injector fuel rail port cap fitting 200

Thought I would share this.

For some reason, I had a bee in my bonnet to remove the cold start injector since I installed an ECU (-933) that does not use this injector. By the way, winter starting is much better compared to the prior 556 ECU. My rationale was that I never wanted the cold start injector to leak and didn't want it to ever cause a vacuum leak where it inserts into the intake manifold. Volvo sells the blank which comes with a gasket.

The cap fitting at the fuel rail port is two Parker parts, #VKA06CF and M06LCFX. Fits perfectly.

What year, model, fuel system is it? I can't tell by the ecu number alone.

This is relevant to early LH 2.4 cars (1989-1992) that were fitted with a cold start injector. Starting in 1992, Volvo deleted this and LH 2.4 accomplished cold start enrichment thru the 4 normal fuel injectors.

I need help understanding these model years. I have read different posts so I am not clear how things went at close of production.

Is the 933 is for the cold start injector cars only and the 951 covered years of 1992 (some units) forward through the 1993's without the injector?

My reading suggests that the 2.4 ran through all those years, depending on the state it may have been sold in. Here is where my confusion starts or not?

The big difference in 3.1 systems was the variable resistance throttle switch.

Or is it just the 1993 cars are all with 951 ECU numbers having only 3.1 systems with no cold start injector and the variable switch?

        Phil

Phil, Boy those details are beyond me. The original ECU for this California car was 556 to account for the EGR. Although I think several different upgrades can be used in this car, the 933 also works the EGR, but no longer uses the cold start injector. It apparently cycles the 4 injectors longer at cold start up. I will say the winter start up and first few minutes until warm up are better with the 933.

Thanks for your posts by the way Steve!

That was technical information on those Parker-Hannifin part numbers. You must have good reference books or know of some good parts people in the industrial arenas.

What company do you go through to obtain those parts? You could say like to rat hole information whether I use it or not. (:-)

I was intrigued with Johns reply to your post. He seems to have been far enough down the roads on these cars to have some insight of what Volvo was doing during those years of production.

Since a lot of us are junkyard hunting dogs, it would be nice to have a better understanding of just exactly we are putting our hands on for our needs, upgrades or hide away components.

My car is the same in California with the same exchanges. I have not noticed any real change in my car. That’s probably because I do not live where there are the four seasons of change throughout the year that comes with the elevations of the west.

            Thanks again for your help!
            Phil

              Phil,
I went thru a local company here in Boise called Motion & Flow Control Products, Inc. I took a junkyard fuel rail with me that had the cold start injector port.
I also bet that if you searched on the internet using Parker part no. XXXXXX that you would find a source if needed. I'm also happy to stop by this business and pick up these parts if you ever want the fitting. Grand total of $2.71. The blank and gasket from Volvo for the intake manifold were considerably more. I cannot recall the price.

                Thanks for the information Steve.
I have done the same things for various projects besides my cars.

I did go out and look at pictures of those parts.

They look like a two piece plug and threaded cap affair with an "O" ring on the plug part. It appears that you plugged the rail and not a banjo fitting connection. That completely does away with the hose and injector parts. It appears to be a great idea.

I have never studied what it would take to do that job.

I will put your part numbers post into my favorites list for future reference.

Thanks for the offer to spin those out to me, but I will pass unless I become much more desperate.
A decline in lumber and fishermen support here are in turning what was our self reliant stores over into bigger chain outfits. The idea today is to cater for the more common unskilled and less knowledgeable patrons, of what now is our shameless, throw away, and I can’t fix it, society.

I presently live, retired, in a low commercialized and non-industrialized community. It’s like some 80 to 115 miles to people that can talk our language for our needs. It’s a nice slower pace now, that I asked or worked for, as bothersome as it is, for me at times!

I would not want to trouble you for three dollars in parts to mail anyway.

                You are very gracious fellow!
                Phil
