Bearing Repack after 1 year? 200

"I'd rather have a mechanic pointing out maintenance I'm forgetting (like re-torquing head bolts after a number of miles) than one that ignores things until they break".

I must be missing a lot.

In all my 48 years of owning, driving and working on cars (44 years Volvo) I've never re-torqued the head bolts on a engine as a matter of "maintenance".

In fact, the only time I've ever re-torqued head bolts was after a engine build and the run-in period.

I built my first engine when I was 14 (Chevy 235 w/babbit bearings), and I've done probably 20 engines in my time....not a lot compared to a lot of the professional guys around here, but enough to have a pretty good idea how it works.

If you've got a mechanic that's recommending a "head bolt re-torque" as a regular maintenance item, you need to take a hard look and ask advice on any other "maintenance" he recommends.

As far a wheel bearings go, a wheel bearing will run a lot longer if it's a little loose verses a little tight.

That's just my opinion, and I mean no offense, but there it is.
