I made a "funnel" out of the top of a 2L plastic bottle. The bottom of the bottle is cut off at an angle up the side. It then fits right under the filter with room to twist off the filter. Then, the top still has the cap. Once the oil is drained, I have all the drained oil in the upside down bottle. I can then empty the upside down bottle by removing the cap with no messes. Works for me.
