Seafoam - Yes or No? 444-544

I've been watching some videos about this stuff. Some swear by it, others swear at it!
What's the opinion of our membership - good or just snake oil?

Does anyone else think it might be a poor idea to send all that soot through an old catalytic converter? Seems like just the thing to kill a high mileage cat.

On a 240 with a bad AMM when I bought it, using seafoam really improved the car's running condition - it spat a couple tablespoons of soot out the tailpipe.

On my 740 with its old engine with a cracked block and the new one - nothing much seemed to happen.

If your car's healthy, I wouldn't bother. If you've just done a rebuild on leaky carbs or something else making the mixture all whacky, it might be worth it.

I used seafoam and distilled water, alternating between the two, and not dipping either for more than a second or two. You don't want to hdyrolock a cylinder, though that would be hard with it running.

I have no data on putting it in the fuel, but if you put it in the oil, change the oil within a hundred miles. It no doubt reduces the wear protection.

Cheers!

Warm -up the engine, use vacuum port and a length of fuel line and "Slurp" up one third 1/3 of the can of SeaFoam. Turn engine off immediately and wait 10 minutes. Star car and drive like you stole it. It will smoke as the carbon become loose and burns up into the exhaust. Back roads or late night. Remember to "Slurp" from the hose or your engine will stop. Pour the rest of the Seafoam into gasoline at proper mix ratio.

Thanks. Is it an effective way to clean up your engine? Pardon the pun, but I've also read that it's just a smoke screen & has no useful value. I just don't know.....

Hello All,

I've used it on my 855t and NA. Sip a bit intothe engine... really clears up a throttle body.I put the rest in the tank. It will blow out so much soot, gunk and smoke... It's scary. I've used the trans version on a clunky auto trans in my uncles 740t. While engine runs, shift through gears and then take it for a spin! Both worth every penny. Never used on my B20 or M40 though.

Cheers,

The instructions call for !/3 in the tank, 1/3 in the crankcase, and 1/3 into the engine through a vacuum line.

I have not used it and probably never will but some swear by it and some swear at it!

It sounds like an old fashion Italian tune up.

I would only use it in the gasoline and engine. SeaFoam does work as I have repair Idle problems and pinging due to carbon build-up inside the cylinder-head. I would use it to clean a severely carbon-ed engine.

I meant to say ,"I would "not" use SeaFoam on a really carbon ed up engine.
