Taillight issues 200 1992

Car is a 92 245.

pass (right) brake light not working. when testing, appling brake triggers od light to come on (arrow) on dash, and once brakes are applied and let off drivers (left) brake lights glows dim with no pedal. turning car off resets this until brake is applied again.

any ideas?

Did you just get the car? Did the problem just start? Did one problem start before the other? ....?

I've had several taillight problems that were in the failure relay - large, round, red; clipped to the edge of the dash panel ~ the driver's left calf.

Uncle The Prancing Moose,

(Like the prancing moose stickers?)

Sounds weird. You can try:
http://www.volvowiringdiagrams.com/

You may be able to diagnose some fault condition causing your symptoms.

I'll bet Uncle Art Benstein will have the solution in mind immediately.

When you say OD light. You say "arrow". Do you mean the manual transmission upshift light with the yellow-orange light that demands you upshift to the next gear at around 2000 engine RPM?

What is the number on your speedometer face plate. Start with the letter 'K' and some numbers. I ask as some may replace a faulty dash head, you know, the entire dash display housing, and merely plug the wires in, and probably properly.

The connector form factors remain the same and about most of the time remain in the same pin position on the connector interface. Yet not always.

For example, if your 1992 245 wagon is manual transmission equipped without EGR, you may have the Bosch LH-Jetronic 3.1 injection system. So, you take a dash head complete from an auto 240, with the Bosch LH Jetronic 2.4, and slap into your 1992, the smoke may escape from that dash head at the worst. At the least, the Bulb Failure Relay output feed that connects via the large circular connector at the rear of the dash head may connect to the yellow-orange upshift light in manual transmission 240s, the (green?) OD disabled or enabled light on auto trans 240s, or green OD engaged on 240s with the M46 4-speed + overdrive.

I'm speculating. As you have made numerous post relating to rear brake light problems, I'll guess that you may have the wrong dash head with your car, and the bulb failure indicator may be failed and causing the failed tail lights and / or the, what you call, OD light on your dash head to illuminate.

I can't really speculate further. Other may have more specific suggestion.

So, you have a 1992 245 (240) wagon. It may help us to help you provide:
- The Speedo K-number
- The Bosch part number on your Bosch LH-Jetronic computer under the passenger kickpanel to the right of the passenger's right leg under the kickpanel.
- Automatic or manual transmission?
- There may be a blue stamped manufacture date on the aft side of the dash head like ⎐/1992] or something that may help.

I dunno what else to suggest.

Questions?

Hope that helps.

MacDuff.
