Uncle 94 945T,
You must have the Volvo stereo MADNESS, huh?

I was about done with a reply post and somehow I futzed up the tabs in Opera 12.17 browser, and well, it all went downhill. A few dayze ago.
You reside in SoCally, yeah? What with Temecula and such.
You have some option, number 1, so sayeth the Picard Captain.
Like many very late 1980s and into the early oughts and maybe to the present, Volvo uses audio made for Volvo by Alpine.
The CR-813/CR-814 uses the Alpine M-bus. The round DIN connector for AMP (line level to power amp), EQ (to remote equalizer), and CD (to remote CD changer as you need.
You may get lucky and try to find the cable that you need:
- At a auto stereo store that sells or used to sell Alpine or deal in used parts.
- A Volvo equipped SoCally salvage yard with very late 1980s 700-series, all 900 series, and 800/70 series through 1999 or so.
- At places like the aforementioned Crutchfield. You may also want to try eBay and Amazon.
- At a cable store that either has a cable with the DIN connector of the proper pin number at each end, with ground running through the cable to ground the connector ends, wired up to match the connector pinout at the CD DIN jack on the radio and the DIN connector on the CD changer you want to install.
A an i-net search on Alpine M-bus should turn up wiring schematic and pinout connector information as other Europa car brands used Alpine with the M-bus for connection between the receiver head unit and the remote amp, CD changer, and EQ. I think the CD connector is 12 or more-pin? You may be able to create or have a technician create a test a cable. Or maybe buy a pre-manufactured cable for use with Alpine M-bus.
Another strategy would be to search the online inventories of SoCally salvage yards near in in Temecula. (Yet is anything near anything in SoCally?) If you find a late model luxury 700 series, 800/70, 900 series up to 1999 or so, inspect the vehicle for the DIN ended cables that run from the receiver radio head unit area to the rear cargo area in a wagon or boot (car). Bring your TORX with you. Identify the cable by number of pins at the connector to match the CD jack at the CR-813/814. Search through the car to find the other end. I'm unsure, yet some 800 series may have put the CD changer under the passenger seat or it may have been the AMP. Remove the interior trim piece and gently remove the cable. Do not pull hard on the cable to pull it through blind compartments and such. Some 780s came equipped with remote camp in the trunk.
The remote AMP and remote CD cables may run along either side of the car to the rear.
Hope that helps. Just try to stay cool and keep hydrated as it can take some time pulling apart the 700/900/90 and 800/80 interiors.
