your instincts are looking in the right direction.

the exhaust was likely bolted up when the engine/trans was effected by the collapsing mounts.

now the line is correct the exhaust pipe line has been raised as a result of the engine line being higher.

i suspect you will have to unbolt the cat from the header pipe and sort out the wrong hanging line there. this presumes the header is unbent upwards
