Rear Fog Lamps 700 1990

I have a switch on my dash for these. I do not have front fogs. The switch is hot. If I click it the amber lens in the switch lights up.

My rear circuit boards have spots for these bulbs. There are none.

I have heard that these are supposed to only work on one side. Correct? That will get me a ticket here. The local cops will think I am BS-ing them if I tell them that.

I would like to use these sockets, perhaps as additional brake lights. I think this may be illegal. Regardless, is there a writeup on getting these things to work properly or to perhaps wire them so that they can give me more bulbs when I brake?

Just curious. If it is indeed illegal then this is strictly for research purposes, heh...

Incorrect, it gives a brighter taillight on both sides. I rewired mine so they recieve the brake light wires, much brighter brake lights now, just trying to keep up with new developments in brake lighting. Ever notice the new LED brake lights on firetrucks? VERY bright, noticeable, and in your face.

Found a lot of information today. One socket was melted. I used a solder scraper to remove the excess plastic inside the socket hole so that a lamp could be inserted. I fixed the metal bus as it had popped loose of its melted plastic retainers. I used superglue. That is suboptimal. I will look for something better.

I plan on wiring these to my brake lamp busses.

I upped the bulb output as suggested in the FAQ. (Now using 3497 bulbs, which are 28 watts rather than 21 like the 1156 lamps that are spec-ed.) The brake busses (not including the 3rd lamp in the rear window) carry the two 21 watt bulbs. If I wire in the 3497 bulbs that will be 4x28 amps. I imagine I need to change my fuse. Is this the case? Or just leave it alone?

Also, what gauge of wire should I solder to the busses for 28 amp bulbs?
