Okay to temporarily remove upper strut tower washer?

I have some rust developing under the crescent-shaped washers on the top of the front strut humps. Can they be temporarily removed, or at least remove one nut and swing it out of the way, so I can treat the rust underneath it?

Dumb question I know, but I've never done suspension work on the old brick before.

There are no dumb questions...but there are a lot of stupid answers!

Asking can avoid problems, seen many "know it all's" find out that they have screwed the pooch 1/2-way thru a procedure because they didn't ASK!

Probably prudent to postulate probing .....um..... questions.

Not a dumb question at all. Mark the spots where the notches are in the crescent washer. Don't move or lift the car to be sure the strut doesn't shift and you'll be able to remove the washer without any ill consequences. -- Dave
