Two braided ground wires coming from back of engine... 900

Hello Everybody! I just got back after 5 months working in another state and went to start my '93 940 Turbo SW and the battery was dead as I new it would be (I think I have a short somewhere). She fired right up with a jump and was idling when I turned the defrost on full and after about a minute she died (my car) instantly. No lights, no nothing. I think I blew a fuse and will start checking that as soon as possible. My question is about the two metal braided ground wires coming a flat black box in the middle of the firewall. One is going to the valve cover and the other longer one is completely loose, not attached to anything. Where does it go to? the CPS? or distributor? If it goes to the CPS it's been loose for over 6 years!
*Note: I have some water leaks coming from my windshield area which may have caused a short and to blow a fuse. Maybe??
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Bill

Looking at various models, yrs in junkyards. Some have the single braided wire to valve cover, other have the double, both running to the valve cover.

Likely you have a completely toast battery that just can't hold or take a charge sufficient to run high load items and the FI/INJ. Alternatively, you have grown so much fuzz on the primary battery cable(s) that only with the assistance of the jump start can tey overcome the additional resistance.

The braids are radio frequency suppression and nothing more. They serve no other purpose.

Thank you again Onkel and you too Aleek for the help. I replaced the battery and she fired right up. I'll worry about the other ground wire later.
Next is a valve body rebuild..... fun stuff!! :)

This would be great news if it's only the battery. :) I really hope it's only the battery. Thank you for your quick response.... I really appreciate it.
Also, should I, in the near future, remove the rfs bolt and place the ground and bolt back in there?

Take care,

Bill
