B30 into a 444-544 Has it been done?? 444-544

I am curious if there has ever been a thread on the Board about this conversion. I have heard of 122's w/ the 6 cylinder install, but it's a heavy anchor. You can put any motor in any chassis w/ the right tools and enuff cash. B30 will make 300 HP with the 164 power plant, bore to 3.3, cam, head work, 6 Mikuni carbs, rejetted: Sweet!!!

I'm going to vote NO on this idea, even if it has been done "successfully" by someone else.

The B30 weighs just about 125 lbs more than the B18/B20: even if you cut up the firewall and mount the engine as far aft as possible, most of that weight is going to end up on the front axle. This would change the front/rear weight distribution from a very decent 52/48 to something like 55/45. Not good.

If I wanted to keep it all Volvo, I would go for a B21/23 turbo... just as much streetable horsepower potential, more reliability, and *less* weight than the stock B18.

"less weight than the stock B18"……really??

Is it the aluminum head that makes this possible?

Yes... the aluminum head is the key factor. Mind you, we're not talking dozens of pounds here, but the point is that it is a far better choice than the B30 WRT weight.
