My 2015 Ins Quote UP 16.6% 200

I have a newer pickup as a good vehicle and a 240 for Winter, hauling, ... rough use. The 240 has max liability, comprehensive, and towing; no collision. it's about $380/year for the 240.

I've enjoyed this strategy for years. Smugly telling myself how much I was saving by having a low-budget 2nd car.

Last year I almost bought a wagon/crossover SUV - Outback, Outlander Sport, Jetta Sportwagon - that we could use for trips. Insurance quotes came in around $600 w/ collision.

So for for + ~$200/year I could be driving a brand new car with collision on it. My ins company was unable to explain why a ragged old Volvo cost so much to insure relative to a $18-$25K new car.

Certainly 240 drivers aren't high risk - but perhaps drivers of old cars are accident prone?

It can't be that the old-school Volvo body will crush newer cars => higher liability for solid-steel cars?

My rates just went down ..... 200

My rates just went down 4%.

Maybe the company saw the way you write (supposedly) English and thought hat you're foreign and that your rates should go up accordingly :-). [just kidding]

But the other guy is right -- you should be looking for another insurance company.

so I reset some parameters...lowered the "if they sue me" option, as I no longer drive the I95 Md to NY and expose myself to litiguous NJ/NYC area sharks.

So hows 705 for 2 cars....that's still a 6% increase for someone who "did not do any harm" for Like Years. But is it still a GIFT.

What does the Volvo community think of these rates.

Insurance is a neccessary evil with a big E on evil!

Was that for six months or a full year premium?

Mine is for six months but once a year they are allowed to raise it. Four cars is now $545 x 2 a year for liability and comprehensive. 1,090.
I have been with the Allstate company for 40 years with only one claim for hitting a deer in '79.

Out state insurance commission makes them apply for a rate increases or if the commission adds their own.
The Ca. Commissioners now charge the insurance companies a fee ($3.48 per 6 months for my premium rate) for the "states cost" to help them recover "any fraud done to" the insurance company. Guess who now pays that!

Get this!
No one is suppose to be uninsured in order to license a car for use on the road.
It's suggested by the companies that I pay and I do, for a "uninsured motorist" policy! What's up with that product?

Crimes is paying someone, IMHO!

Fee and Tax, are the same number of letters in this state.
These are Levied the same way on any bills you get.
It is getting to be a no-vote requirement to do so! We have slipped back a couple hundred years, I think!

If I change the mileage driven or my deductibles, it then can be changed.
Don't know about accidents as in accident forgiveness as it is not in all states! California is a "not" according to Allstate.
I have never recieved any check in the mail either! But they advertise that feature anyway, here and across the nation. Go figure?

Oh, watch out for that new car replacement crap being advertise by a bunch of companies! 15K mileage limit, no leases or rentals, to the original owner only no previous owners allowed and there is a time limit. One, Average driver, drives 12 to 18K? Don't lend it out as you might go over that by commuting!

If they can get third party reports that I drive each car more than I state, they are allowed to raise my rates.
So far it's always very tiny amount as I keep my mileage to what I say on the forms for each car they send me. Being retired, I play their games!
No one does any work on my cars. There is just my wife and I as drivers. Not very often that both cars are on the road at the same time.

This is what is driving them nuts! They state on their letter/forms that they cannot determine my mileage from third party sources.

I know the going batty because they tried to raise a policy premiun on my motor home.
It was the one time I failed to send in the forms back, within their 20 day time limit, because I was out of the country!

I called another insurance company for a quote and Allstate was so close it was not worth changing.
I did find out they were over insuring my rig as it has aged.
The insurances "blue book" of maximum payout was far less! This is, If, the other guys insurance company would have to pay for it to be repair I would be *** out!

I notified my company when I balked about a 20 day limit and I reduce my premium by $35 every six months. I surely had to tell them thanks for the gift! Ha hah!

I have just about decided not fill them out anymore. As "if" they go up without reasonable justification or acceptable amounts, I will quote all the cars, my two homes and the motorhome again!
By the way, ALLSTATE now "farms out" FIRE insurance coverage to a TOWER insurance company.
I learned that when I stopped renting out my other house two years ago under an ALLSTATE landlords policy.

No new fire policies are written by ALLSTATE. I am grandfathered on my primary residence through ALLSTATE.
I am starting to feel a bit "shaky" in the "good hands" of ALLSTATE.
Also, I heard ALLSTATE was one of the first companies to refuse to pay for the Eastcoast Sandy storm damages! I also heard they are being banned in some states. Might explain the fire thing here in California.

Amazing how things are hidden from consumers by just not saying anything, until point blank asked!

So far I think I am good on my cars. I have 9k for my real road car (the '91) and 4k on the other three. The motorhome ($135 x2) is allowed 4k. Most years are only like 4 to 5 hundred miles doing local trips.

Now they are saying, if I drive any over the stated mileage they will raise it for the following year and its up to me to report it to be less as that's not automatic! Great plan to worry the customer, huh?

Just the way they say that now, there is "no banking" for those years ever allowed.
If I fail to fill out the form they can raise it. 1k to the national average miles driven by an average driver of 12k! Yeah right!

I am not too happy but the rates, so far, seem fair!
I will try to keep the speedometer of the motorhome out of any tire shops or towing trucks that report to car fax or others, as I drove it this last year for 10k miles.
Gas was a lot cheaper, boy that was a break!
I have had it for 15 years and have put about 40K on it, in total, since it was given to me by my parents.

16.6% is quite a jump I admit. Are they regulated by the state or are you surrounded by high priced performance cars?
You know SUV's or Corrolla's? Any 💣? Terrorist are not covered either!

Phil

That's for a full year. Liberty Mutual, have had them since 1978 on various cars, they were always the cheapest/coverage in my area. But they have been creaping up over the years. Part of it is the demographics of the area. When I first moved here - Carroll County MD, it was mainly rural. Now it is suburban with shopping malls and massive commuter traffic to Baltimore and Wash DC. The south part of the county is a nightmare.
They even paved the road I live-on a couple years ago. :((((((((.

The least I've paid was $525 for both for a year for the current 80 sedan and 87 wagon. Once I started freelance work out of my house and stopped commuting to an office, it dropped to that from nearer to 900/yr.

I also checked out the price to insure a newer Suburu Outback...and was looking at north of $1000 for the full package. Seemed a high price to pay for a shinny grocery-getter. I barely drive 8000m a year combined Down from 10K on one car when I was a commuter - 250 a week.
