Hi,

I don't believe the later glass is any different. I've used this type of gasket on 3 cars. The first one was on an 84 at any auto glass shop. They let me watch. The last two, an 88 and an 89, I've done myself.

The glass shop I use carries a number of generic moldings, one of which is the same as what Volvo uses. They sell me enough for a windshield for $10.

If you're doing it yourself, you'll need a couple of tubes of urethane caulk, try EBay, and be sure to remove all the old butyl because the urethane wont bond to it.

To my mind, the later gasket is a major improvement.

Good luck,
Peter

curious as hell sages- how do you repair the windshield channel if the metal is leaking due to rust through and perforation. looks like a so called big job where you could get soaked by a shyster after your floor carpet has been soaked by rain leaks. pretty good metaphor heh? bet it has to be welded. thanks tons oldduke ps- may have to undertake this war on my 92 245 soon.

Are you putting back in the glass designed to be used with the trim strip or are you putting in the later windshield? It have the choice, do the latter.

I cannot definitively answer your question but IPD says it won't fit so I suspect the glass is enough different that you would face challenges trying to make it work. The old style just use butyl tape which is very easy to use and forgiving.

Do be prepared for some rust repair at the two bottom corners of the windshield with either install. It is more visible with the trimless modern glass.
