Concur that Art's photos and narrative are unbeatable!

I did this recently and used 6-mil visqueen (construction moisture barrier) and it seemed to work fine.

I just cut a sheet to rough size and taped it along the top edge, then drew the cutouts I wanted and cut those with scissors.

Along the left and right edges I let the barrier cover the holes for the door panel pop-clips; I just popped them through the plastic. Worked fine.

About the mechanism lube... you'll get a variety of opinions. I used LPS-2 which is a medium-weight spray lube for the pivot points, synthetic grease for the window sliding parts and moly lube for the window gearing (I have electric windows FWIW). Look up the YouTube videos by mercedessource.com. He has several very good ones that illustrate the process.

For your door hinges you can buy an inexpensive grease gun made for chain saws that works perfectly on older Volvo doors; it fits the little hinge grease fitting perfectly. Google "Oregon Cutting Systems 26365 Chain Saw Grease Gun" and you'll find the info.

Hope that helps. Lubing up the door hinges and internal mechanism made a HUGE difference on my '82; doors open and close much easier and the windows are much happier.
