I have Bilstein HDs in my 1990 745 with 180,000 miles and they still provide very good damping. Not as rigid as when new but nowhere near needing replacement. The Boge Turbo Gas units I have in three other cars are likewise doing very well with fewer miles but still damping well. All were made in Germany.
