To Lower or Not to Lower, That is the Question

My bone-stock '85 240DL is as high as the day it left the factory. I'm thinking it looks a tad ungainly and it certainly has a fair bit of body roll in the corners.

I'm thinking of installing a set of IPD lowering springs but have a few questions -
1. will I risk tire-rub in tight turns?
2. can I stay with the stock shocks and struts and strut inserts?
3. What are the pro's and con's of lowering a 240? I don't really want to simply cut a few coils out of the stock springs...but I also don't want to spend a ton of money on this project.

To Lower or Not to Lower, That is the Question

All just a matter of opinion. I dislike any vehicle that is lowered (my opinion). They all look like something broke and it needs to be fixed. You want better cornering, look into Thicker sway bars and Strut supports.

Lowering the vehicle... yes with the nice turn ratio of the 200's I bet you will have Fender hitting issues.
You will need to look into adjustable Trailing Arms as well.

    possible exhaust banging issues too

    1) No.

    2) Yes

    3) Looks better to some, but it obviously reduces ground clearance.

Cut dem springs if it's really a looks VS budget thing.

That said on a budget, and addressing your actual complaint, I'd start with a 23mm 240 Turbo front sway bar and retain the inherent usefulness of the 245 design.
