245 ABS issues 200 1993

I want to disable the ABS temporarily on my 93 245DL wagon. Can I just pull the 40A fuse next to the battery? Is that safe? All I want to do is use the car until I can get the time to trouble-shoot the ABS system.

For the past 2 weeks, my ABS system is acting up: seems that it is actuating inappropiately causing a mechanical scrapping noise and a steering wheel and brake pedal judder... happens at low speeds just as you start out, only after it has been parked for many hours or overnight... BUT not every morning. Just some mornings. It does not happen once everything is warmed up oddly enough. All the pads are over 90%, there are no fluid leaks anywhere, the rotors were replaced long before this problem arose.

Thanks for your advice!

W. Li

Thanks for your thoughts. BTW, my ABS light remained out all the time. After I pulled the 40A ABS relay, it came on, as expected. With the relay out, the car is quiet and back to normal behavior albeit without ABS.

Will move ahead and examine the front wheel sensors, and clean them up. The static resistance of both of them falls in the specified range: mine are 1100 ohms both sides

Most likely dirty front wheel sensors. If they are not seized in their holes, or the allen head screws rusted beyond removal, you can remove the sensors from the back, brush off the steel dust, and reinstall. Be careful though, as these parts are VERY expensive to replace with new. If the sensor will not wiggle out of the hole, leave it in and try to clean from the other side.

I don't see a problem disabling ABS temporarily at the fuse.
