M46 OD removal: to pry or not to pry

I've used the slide hammer like Eric has recommended.

It is better to put the car in reverse and stall the engine out against the parking brake. The OD will come slide off easily. You can also put the rear of the car on jack stands with the engine running, shift into fourth and OD, and shut the engine off. Either method relieves the pressure on the cone clutch, and the OD comes off easily. If you already have 1/4" of separation, it is too late for either of those methods.
