AMM test, not so sure? 200 1986

Hi Les!

Well well, you are back on here again.

I gave you up for dead on the battlefield and not working on this car.

We have been down this road before that the engine is not getting fuel unless you shoot it in there.
There are four little valves that let that stuff in and they are not working. It's plain and simple.

All the things you have stated in this post only affect a running engine. Your engine is as dead as a can of sardines or K rations! You must like them cold because until you add some fuel to them both they are going to stay that way.

An injector needs power to go through it, period!
I gather you have not gotten a "noid light" or any kind of instruments and worked on this car.
I guess you have let the car sit again until a part comes flying bye from the virtual Army surplus! (:-)

You need to check for power across the injectors when cranking only!
Only cranking is going to close that relay otherwise or ..... This next step!

You have manually closed the system relay.
This means opening it up the white case and you tie those main contacts closed with some rubber bands or a boot string. Need some real Army boots, virtual will not work here! (:-)

If that relay is getting power, from the ignition key being on and the fuse panel has good fuses of course the relay should be hot with 12 volts. You will hear the pumps run and that's it.

With the key still turned on to run ll position, one side, of any of the injectors, should have power on.

It will be only showing voltage to one terminal side of any injector!
This is normal and the injector will not work.

You can only see this with the voltmeter or test light. There is one pin hot and the other test lead grounded to the engine.
This proves that "if" the relay closed normally, the injectors will be getting power and that's it! They will not operates at this point.

The voltmeter or test lights should Not be across or plugged into the two pins in the connector. If it is, neither instruments will show anything!

The reason is the other pin is it is not grounded, yet.
A test light or voltmeter can not read anything it if there is no path through a load or resistance to another side ground. There has to be a potential difference or voltage drop if the circuit is completed and the leads not on the same "one side" of a circuit.

The circuit is not completed.
The ECU is standing in between the ground, like an open switch. The injector is going to stay off until the ECU grounds all the injectors with switching pulses of timed current.

This is the only time your test light "flickers or voltmeter will be on showing a reading of about five volts across those injector pins. The meter needs to be a very fast responding meter. A noid light or low wattage light bulbs that work very fast.

Noid lights are encased in plastic to brighten the flash somewhat! They should be as cheap as Christmas light bulbs!
They come in many pin out configurations because, everyone has their own way of doing things, even if they are identical in reality!
That was a partial definition for, human created Chaos!

The reason for seeing only five volts, is because, the injector is a load or resistance on the circuit and there is a voltage drop or difference in potential. Hello!


That's not going to happen until the ICU $ ECU see's the hall sensor in the distributor turn.
In nineties cars that is a CPS signal off the flywheel!

The ICU actually looks for the signal. Then it sends a signal to the ECU.
They work back and forth very rapidly.

There are several events happening, all at once, triggered by those first signals. It's then and only then, the engines starts and will continue to run!

Now somewhere there are some wires going between them!
This is Why, Why Art, posted the bad harness as a "likely suspect" but it's not a silver bullet answer!

One open contact, a bad relay coil, broken wires or frayed wires causing random shut downs all have nothing to do with components like O2 sensors, temperature sensors and air filters.

Those are all "Johnny, come lately" tactics, that should be left on the Call of Duty games!
They get you "virtually" nothing!

Learning by doing is the only game played here!

If you are not going to dive under the hood, instead of into a fox hole, don't expect more than you received the last time from the Brickboard.
There are fewer 240's and enthusiasm, so you gotta show, a little soap, to get a little lather!

I hate to be the tough guy, but you got me to put on my face paint!
