What do you think about this stuff? Do you think it works to clean injectors?

Last year, I put a teaspoon or so into my snowblower (while it was running) - I heard the engine run smoother immediately!

The same for my lawn mower this spring.

Next season. I'll try a bit as soon as I add fuel for the first start-up.

Have used Marvel Mystery oil for yrs in the fuel to keep the top end clean and it seems to work. Techron was/is used at the stealerships at every oil change but its been 20 yrs since I visited one

I remember "Click and Clack" saying they liked BG44K.

Did not know that but a partial can in motorcycle gas tank was always my first attempt to get long dormant bike running right before deciding to tear down the carbs. Worked about 25% of the time verses 0% of the time for all other products.

Amoco / Chevron Techron, with Techroline as the 'ingredient' can do well for your fuel injected engine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Techron

Why do you believe you have need for it? You mean as an occasional fuel tank additive before a fuel tank fill up?

Some gasoline brands include it as a regular additive. Though adding to your fuel tank in the bottle from the fuel mart of auto parts store may raise concentration with faster results in a fuel system with dissolvable deposits where fuel already passes through inside the fuel system.

Techron will also force deposits as the injector tip to open the spray pattern. It will also help to clean off valve stem build up.

Though no additive is a replacement for a properly tuned engine control system with regard to fuel management. Say, if the oxygen sensor or air mass meter is not working well due to wiring or sensor faults.

Do you have a poor tuning or poor running or check engine light on?

Adding the occasional bottle before a fill up won't hurt. The Chevron / Amoco guidance would have the auto owner pour an 8 or so $ bottle before each fillup. Most modern fuels have some sort of solvents in them above the gasoline mix of heptane, nonane, and most coveted, octane.

If a stupid ethanol blend, so we in the stupid U.S. states can subsidize Iowa and Illinois corn, methanol has a mild cleaning action and also gives an appearance or raising octane rating. Though to produce ethanol creates more pollution than merely prospecting, extracting, distilling, and delivering gasoline fuel to your fuel tank.

I won't give citations. Do some research. Ethanol is U.S. corporate subsidy BS.

Sorry to digress.

Hi,

In My Humble Opinion, there is no need for it.
No such thing thing as " A Mechcanic In A Can" or the Trade Mark ... yet!

Any Brand gasoline allowed to use the term a "Top Tier" gasoline has enough detergents in it to keep modern injectors clean. These are after throttle body injectors.
In fact "part" of the price difference between premium and regular unleaded is the amount of detergents need for earlier fuel injectors or clean mistreated injectors with stale gasoline.
We are talking a penny or two here per gallon of gas between the two grades. Use 89 like the Volvo company recommends and split the difference.
The little fancy black "box" bottle changes its design. Aren't they nice attractive sales touches over the many years of selling this stuff.

Techron is as stated on the side of the bottle a Stoddard Solvent formulation of mineral spirits. Mostly in line with a paint thinner or turpentine by half or more of its weight.
The Benzine amount is about 5%. More like a Dry cleaning solvent that will dispersed moisture and oils.
Methanol is another "like" ingredient " Dry Gas" from what I can tell. Either way, they are not required to tell and don't tout what the "great stuff is," so to me, it's snake oil.
I don't think that a 12 oz bottle of that stuff in a tank of gas would have enough contact time to do anything In the fuel system.

Look it up on line. It's old school marketing. About as old as WD-40 in mind set. WD is a good solvent but in-line with kerosene with a fragrance. Kerosene is slightly oily when compared to a true solvent that will evaporate more cleanly.

Anyway that's my two cents spent here instead of with them.

For those who just got to have the latest gimmick watch this.

That is a very funny video. Perfectly captures the tone of a good YouTube how-to. Really well done.

I have no comment on Techron.

I will say, if the injectors have 150k+ miles on them, then spend the $80-100 and have them cleaned/balanced. THAT does make a difference.

I've never heard of balancing them. Where do you send yours?

If this is a k-jet, the fuel distributor automatically equalizes the flow through each injector.

When we got our first Volvo, I asked about using fuel injector cleaner, I was told that it was not needed.

After the dealer changed hands, my '90 744TI ran a bit rough - I was told to use some injector cleaner.

I asked friend of mine that was a salesman for the first Volvo dealer about the contradiction. He told me that the first dealer had excellent service ratings and got a year end bonus of $1000 for each of the 1100 cars they sold per year.

They could afford to spend several hundred dollars to keep a customer happy - they put injector cleaner in each car they serviced.

He told me that they had a 55 gallon jug of Techron.

The second dealer did not get excellent ratings and did not get the bonus - thus no free cleaner.

I usually put a dose in before I start a trip so that it runs through the engine at one time.

I moved back to dealer #1 as soon as I heard the story.

That's an interesting story. If they had a drum of the stuff, I wonder how much they would put in a tank?

Techron - You Tube video 200

A 10 ounce bottle added to a nearly empty tank.

This You Bube Toob video producer concerns itself with piston top carbon removal using Techron.

Does Techron Fuel System Cleaner Actually Work? (with PROOF)

This video concerns itself with using pour in injector cleaners. Shows ultrasonic injector cleaning. The video owner, Lethal Injection, performs such ultrasound cleaning.

This video uses several different cleaning products for the do it yourself-er.

Other videos abound using other cleaner products. Maybe some dealing with injector spray patterns, also.

Hope that helps.

It works, but the effect is negated somewhat if you run quality fuel with a good additive package. I think it used to make more of a difference years back. Try some along with a good old fashioned Italian tuneup.
