Hello All

I have a B20 head in my car and am having trouble getting the original temperature sender to seal
Should i put some sort of sealant on the threads to help
Thanks in advance
David

    I think the threaded collar applies pressure to the sending bulb itself, so the threads shouldn't be an issue.

    is the threaded collar tight? There shouldn't be any movement of the sending unit in the head when the nut is tightened down

    I'd remove everything and clean well - the underside of the sealing lip on the sending unit and inside the hole in the head where the sending unit seats. Maybe try one of those cylindrical wire brushes used to clean inside 1/2" or 5/8" copper sweat fittings. You might have to wick some water out of the head to see interior sealing surface

      David;

      I agree with Danny...the overnut seals onto the upper flat surface on the (brass) Temp Sensing Bulb, and pushes (and seals its lower conical seat into a matching conical seat in the head...these should be clean for good sealing)...trick is to seal the overnut to head threads, but NOT to unite the TSB with the overnut by gooping between the two with sealer...when the sealer is baked on and the two are united, it will cause the capillary tube to twist when loosening it next time...very undesirable! I even put just a little graphite grease between the TSB and overnut to prevent locking the two together...

      Good Hunting!
