1983 CIS braided hose furel rust/future failure 700

My username is Three5bangers. One of my 5bangers is my bought new Volvo 850 so I'm an old member here. I have two 83 Audis which probably share some CIS stuff with the 7 series Volvos. The nice looking braided CIS hoses from the fuel distributor to the injectors are old enough to make failure a possibility along a horrendous underhood fire. Maybe you Volvo guys are luck and can still get these hoses from the dealer but Audi parts availability is horrendously bad. Does anybody in the US of A have a reputation for custom making these? The furrel ends on mine have heavy rust - even if the 34 year old hose has not been destroyed by ethanol maybe they will just pop off the rusted ends. With all the CIS cars out there somebody must have entered into this replacement part market. Know anybody?

Audi lines 700

There is indeed an outfit selling pieces to make up CIS plumbing. Our 240s (before '81 and turbo) and 260s are rife with this plumbing, but it is rubber insulated nylon, just like our brake lines -- and without much flexing, mostly immune to age-related degeneration, and more likely to suffer as a result of some physical intervention, as depicted in Kitty's link to my LH fuel line mistakes.

I can't find a saved link to the supplier I've seen years back, but maybe you can do some research on some of the other forums for cars with CIS. Here's an example from a ferrari forum: http://www.ferrari101.com/forum/technical-q/186689-unobtainium-supplies-k-jetronic-cis-plastic-fuel-line-hose-restoration-kit-6.html

1983 CIS braided hose furel rust/future failure 700

Sunday 18 June 2017? Waiting THAT LONG for a reply? Joly-Moly, RWD Volvo Dood!!!!

This may help you get started. RWD Volvo Brother Art Benstein and his wise illustrated guidances:

Yep, on a 1983, all fuel lines should be replaced. Low pressure rubber and certainly the high pressure nylon.

At least Volvo used Bosch lines that were black and not that frail transparent junk VW used on some models with Bosch K-Jet CIS.

So, you can make your own as Art shows you.

You may find Volvo specialist and performance shops that may do this for you.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. No problem with the delay as the car is not registered. I do drive it 20minutes a month on my driveway. My problems would be worse - underhood. My new photo for example is where the fuel supply attaches to an injector. The colette is rusted and the underlying hose is probably from 1982. I was assuming 240s and 740 use the same time of injectors and attachements but maybe not. So if anyone has more tips , and it's 2019 don't hessitate. I probably haven't gotten to it yet. Also these McMaster-Carr folks probably have what I need, I must dig down. I'm not so worried if I end up with a system that doesn't have that pretty braided cloth - more important not to have a fire.

Photo of my hose, if I didn't set up image correct
