re: 87 245 auto- going for 400,000 miles 200 1987

Hi All,

I want to go up to 400,000 miles. It's a long way to go as I only put 3000-5000 miles per year. That's a reduction from 30,000 miles per year. I already have a bucket list of things to fix. Despite my aggressive maintenance schedule, SB needs another round of four brake calipers, fuel sending unit (a leak), in-tank fuel pump, hatch hinge, door handle and more... Oh, yeah, rust is catching up fast.

The weather in Fort Myers is heating up. I had to replace a noisy timing belt tensioner. The power steering pump (put about 40,000 miles) is on its way out. My belt tension is very loose. I think it's the heat, and maybe grease is getting dried up.

Q1. Should I keep using it as a daily driver or kill it slowly (skip major maintenance) using a backup car?
Q2. What to expect to break down under the tropical weather like Florida?

I wonder what will be left of SB after reaching 400,000 miles. I know it will need an HG, rear main seal, new wiring harness, rust and more.

As always, thank you.
