sticky shift lock 200 1992

My 245 has a sticky shift lock that makes it hard to shift out of park first thing in the morning. If I stick my finger in the shifter slot and flick the release it works fine all day. The next morning the problem reappears.

Solutions ?

Thanks

Greg

Don't know, but imagine the solenoid plunger has been exposed to a sweet drink sometime in its life...

Sorry, you asked for a solution, and then I couldn't edit or log in.

This may be worth a try, but no guarantees.

Thanks Art. I was wonder what I'd use to flush out the sticky stuff, if there was a solvent that would dissolve sugar other than water.

Yes, what liquid would you dare use to flush out the shifter bucket avoiding disassembly? About the only thing I could think of was 91% IPA, but that doesn't touch sugar, as I proved to myself with a few caramelized drops of Aunt Jemima. Ethanol should do better, according to a glimpse of an article on nonaqueous solvents for sucrose I couldn't read for free. Looked for some moonshine to test with, but it was all gone.

There are a lot of forum posts suggesting the ripping out and discarding of the yellow plastic lever. I think they are all bogus and doing so will leave you with no option but to dive into the works.

When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
