Is Maaco a good choice for painting my old volvo?

As someone from Europe, "Maaco" should not have been something familiar to me, but unfortunately, it was.

In the mid nineties a friend of mine imported a 1966 Mustang coupe from California. Originally, it was a brownish bronze kind of paint, but Maaco had resprayed it white.
Long story short, we ended up literally peeling off the "Maaco job" to prepare it for some quality paint job.

If you look at some reviews, Maaco seems to get either glowing five star reviews, or, more often, a single star at best.

I did an online quote for my 91 , polar white , with just one area that need a very minor body work and it was almost 1200 bucks.

A Community College with an Automotive Technology program, specifically including Body and Paint, can be a good deal.

Paint shops can vary a bit. Many shops take pride in their work.

Go to the shop that you want to try and ask them to show you some of their work. Look for streaks, overspray etc. Ask how much a particular job cost and why.

See if you can find an unpainted car in similar condition as yours and see how they do the job.

See how busy they are - is it a body shop as well.

Prep work can add up. Can you remove the parts that you do not want painted, such as bumpers, trim and the like. A '90 740 dos not have much trim.

What shape is your current paint in?

Do you want door jambsand other interior parts painted as well?

Check for the prices of different paints and finishes as well.

You may need several visits to do your research.
