How do I get dash switches such as the fog light switch out.

How does the Fog light socket come out.

Has anyone replaced the lamps in the rocker switches?

Is it just two sizes of sub-miniature lamps in the Yazaki instrument cluster?

Why does the instrument cluster bezel hang up when trying to remove?

Thanks, Bill

    Dear B.B.,

Hope you're well and stay so. The foglight switch is mounted in a plastic frame. That frame is secured with a spring clip, on the side of the frame closest to the headlight switch. The spring clip is to the left of the headlight switch, as you face it.

Old plastic is likely to be brittle. So go gently. Insert a small, flat-blade screwdriver's tip under the edge of the frame. Lever the face of the frame towards you. Increase the pressure slowly. The spring clip will release suddenly.

Then, remove the connectors to the switches, so that the frame - with switches - is no longer attached to the wiring harnesses. On the side of each switch is a plastic "spring". Press them towards the switch body, while pushing the switch forward. The switch will come out of the frame.

I presume that a fog light bulb socket comes out by rotating it, just as does the parking/turn signal bulb socket.

The lamps "in the rocker switches" are actually mounted in a plastic housing atop the switches. The light from the bulb radiates through the housing. The bulb and its socket can be pulled straight out of the housing's opening.

There are only two sub-miniature lamps in a Yazaki speedometer cluster: the four large ones, that illuminate the instruments and a smaller lamp for each warning light.

The instrument cluster bezel is retained by spring clips, that catch on the opening.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

      Thanks Spook,

I found that prying gently on the left AND on the top of the Left bezel did the
trick nicely. There's a top and bottom spring clip about 4-5" from the left edge.
Then I could see those two rocker switch lights, both of which were kaput.
I searched through my Volvo stuff and found 2 of those lights, one dead as a mackeral and was surprise to find another that had been rehabbed with a grain of wheat bulb just as I was about to do. I took the three dead lamps and put in 3mm
14 Volt grain of wheat bulbs needing to first cut the wires. Then pull out the dead bulb and the copper pigtails. then drill out the tiny holes with a #60 drill, Fish in the new bulbs and carefully solder.

Does Volvo indicate anything about the standard light Watts or current?
I want to locate the correct lamps, since probably these lamps wont be bright enough.

How many lamps are on the right side? How does that come off?
Sorry to bug you with so many questions, but as you sagely commented,
old Volvo plastic is brittle and prone to cracking with even mild abuse.

The fog lights should twist out but are really resisting turning. Maybe it
needs a few drops of wonderful Mystery oil to edge of that socket and try removing after a little soak?

The Bezel came out so easy today, dunno if it's from a little dielectric grease
on the locking tabs, or I just got lucky. The gas gauge quit again.

Are there solder connections to re-flow inside the cluster or under the metal shield above the gas gauge?

Finally, today I discovered someone creased my pristine drivers door with something white. This is why it's dangerous to repaint a car, a spiffy paint job attracts shopping carts and various other destructive objects that are strongly repelled by a car with a crappy paint job. Something to do with
      Murphey's law.

      Thanks, Bill
