power steering rack 200 1986

Does anyone have a good source for a rebuilt power steering rack? I have air in the system, not sure yet but I suspect the rack. I know there are two possible types which I will need to confirm.

What are the symptoms ? Is it leaking from the hoses or lines ? Are you refilling the p/s reservoir on a regular basis ?
My guess if your getting a chattering in the steering wheel when you turn the wheel then I would take a look at the pump. If it needs fluid then put in p/s fluid that has "stop-leak" in it and then all the way to left & right a few times.
I have replaced the p/s pumps more than the racks

I would think a defective rack will leak some fluid, not suck air in.

Myself I would look somewhere else.

Please reply about what you found, it is interesting to know.

Have a good day and merry Christmas.

I'd agree with Rolandp and BB -- did you cycle the steering lock to lock a half dozen times? I've relaced many 240 racks in the decades I've worked on that model and always found they needed te be "bled" in that manner to some degree. - Dave

If you are replacing the rack, it may not matter if it is a different brand, unless the mounting hardware is an issue.
