Ignition or Fuel 200 1992

No, it doesn't run with the key. It is switched by the fuel relay along with the main pump. The way I test it in the oil change routine is to power it from a source of unswitched battery at the left side of fuse 6.



A jumper wire will do that, but you have to run it to the right side of fuse 4 with the fuse 4 removed, or you'll power the main pump too, and perhaps not distinguish the two pump sounds.

You should see a tiny spark and hear the pump run.

If it isn't quiet enough, you can use a current meter to see if the pump is using current. But the oxygen sensor heater is also on fuse 4, so if I do that, I disconnect the two-pin heater plug under the wiper motor. Sometimes I forget to put it back ;)

This test is the routine one I use, but not totally conclusive. It is possible to hear a motor run, but not move fuel to the main pump due to a hose rupture or impeller failure. A comprehensive test is a bit more involved:
