windshield washer overpressure T valve 700 1986

There is a plastic T valve off the front windshield washer motor that is supposed to divert washer fluid back into the reservior if the nozzles are clogged. Does anyone know the proper hookup of this? The T is marked with the letters D S P. Thanks!

Re: windshield washer overpressure T valve 700 1986

I'm not sure which T you talk about.

There is one T (green plastic) near the reservoir.

Side goes to nozzles. Straight is overpressure relief. If nozzles are blocked where should the washerpump pump the water ?

The second one is right under the windshield in the middle.

(black plastic - red cap). This is to prevent backflow. Water is .003 seconds earlier on the nozzle, if it works. I belief that over the time the anti-backflow valve get a leak. (deposits, dirty etc.)

In my feeling mine takes too long to supply water.-Who cares?

Re: windshield washer overpressure T valve 700 1986

It's the T by the reservoir. There is an inlet connection on top of the tank where the diverted water would go back in (im guessing). So I'm thinking one hose goes to the pump, one to the washer T valve and one back into the tank. But if you look at the valve, there are the three letters d,s and p marked on it and inside there is some kind of diverter mechanism. I figure if it is hooked in wrong it may not supply water at all.

Re: windshield washer overpressure T valve 700 1986

This "T" connector is actually a check valve in disguise. Fluid comes in from the bottom of this "T." The sides of the "T" are connected to the two nozzles on the left and right of the hood.

This check valve prevents fluid from gravity flow into the reservoir, so that there is instantaneous spray when the pump is activated....no waiting.

I used a regular hardware store tubing "T" and there is no problem in getting windshield fluid. It takes another 0.9578 second more.

I always thought that was for the headlight wipers, and one leg was blocked off when there are none. Most of the time the third hose is just hanging out in midair.
