IGNITION TIMING GOES FULL RETARD AT WILL 200 1988

THE EFFECT IS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. SHUT OFF & RESTART BRINGS BACK NORMAL OPERATION. INTERMITTANT. CAN ANYONE HELP? HAVE ALREADY CHANGED COMPUTER, DISTRIBUTOR, KNOCK SENSOR, IGNITION AMPLIFIER, AND COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR.

Re: IGNITION TIMING GOES FULL RETARD AT WILL 200 1988

Ken, I am having what sounds like the same problem with a 760 B230FT, however, my car bogs from a start, or when I boot the accelerator to the mat. I also get a backfiring sound from the catalytic until I back off on the gas and then the car takes off! I think that everypart known to fit this engine has been changed to no avail. I see that one response was to check the MAF sensor but the Volvo manual for the 117K type of ignition control does not list that component. I would be very grateful if you could share any fix with me.

The maf is always the prime suspect, a .2 volt error will cause serious driveability problems. Perhaps the wire burn off is temporarily fixing it when you turn ign. off and on.

Symptoms sound familiar to fuel pump relay or crank position sensor. Mine used to wait until I was in fast lane during rush hour.
