I used contact cement. You know, the kind used to hold the laminate to the wood on plastic counter tops. Flammable. Apply to both sides and allow to dry before joining. 15 minutes tops.

Re: Glueing glovebox cover back on? 700 85

I reglued the glovebox cover on my daughter's Volvo with urethane glue. This glue will stick almost anything to anything else. Let it run down into the gap and then use weights or small c-clamps to hold the cover in the proper position. The glue sets overnight and really holds well. Don't use too much since the glue expands to fill the gaps and too much will squeeze out along the edges (ask me how I know this). You can get this glue at any home improvement store.

Slap on the RTV. Done four or five that way, all worked fine, none fell apart.

Love that RTV! (I wonder — does it stand for "Restore Thine Volvo?")

I used RTV on my '85's cover. 700 85

The only down side of the RTV adheasive/sealer is the time it takes to set. I judged I should clamp it in place using some wood blocks and C clamps overnight. It worked well and held another 4 years I'm sure as that is when I sold the car. Car also had a slight vinegar smell for a week or so.

Yeah, I think I placed a board across the glovebox facia and wedged a stick 'tween it and the passenger's seat. The RTV set up overnight.

You don't like vinegar smell? It reminds me of a good antipasto at the Italian resturant down the street. I got hungry everytime I drove the car!

Now that's when driving becomes a total sensory experience.

Re: Glueing glovebox cover back on? 700 85

I used some weatherstrip/body trim adhesive to reattach this on my daughters 740 a few months ago and it seems to be fine. I wish I could tell you the exact product name, but I put the tube in a safe place and now I can't find it (I have been looking for it for two weeks.). The stuff I used was made by 3M.

Mike,

I have an 86 240, and I just fixed my glove box cover 2 days ago. I went to Pep Boys and got a kind of rubber cement. It works extremely well, be very sure you have it where you want it, because once its on, its not going anywhere. Just go to an auto store and ask for a rubber cement for your glovebox. Have fun!
