The spline interface between the axle and differential should prevent the pounding from being transferred to the center gears. The bearing, however, must take that vibration. The more wear present the more space between the races and the rollers and the larger the possible movement.
If there is wear in the bearing then the out of balance or out of round tire has some space to move the bearing in and out.
Sealed bearings are available for Volvo. This bearing eliminates the need for both rear seals.
