Air intake mods? 700 90

Could I remove the shield from in front of the air intake tube, and fit a mesh screen over the opening on that tube...and see any improvement? Or would that be a bad move all around? Let me know! Thanks

BAD MOVE!

I wouldn't touch it, it is there for a reason, like, so loads of water doesn't get sucked in through your air intake.......If you moved the intake lower, maybe it might be alright, but, in its current position it is ready to suck water through like mad....also, the alternator, located nearly directly behind the panel, it HATES WATER, get it wet, and it won't have much life left..........
